Before diwali puja vidhi starts, it is most essential to make a puja place. A little built space for all the idols to place your Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kuber.
2. Gather the Puja Samagri.
Bring together all materials required for the Puja including:
- Idols or pictures of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kuber
- Kalash (holy water pot)
- Fresh flowers, especially marigold and lotus
- Diyas, candles, and incense sticks
- Rice grains (Akshat), turmeric powder, vermillion (kumkum), and sandalwood paste
- Sweets, fruits, dry fruits, and nuts for prasad
- Betel-leaf configuration, betel-nut configuration and coin
- Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curds, honey, ghee and sugar)
- Camphor for the aarti
3. Traditional Cloths:
It is believed that the sanctity of the ritual, wherein people pay homage by wearing clean and traditional clothes, is increased by using those colors. White, yellow, or red are considered auspicious colors for the occasion.
Diwali Puja Vidhi: Step-by-step Rules:
This is the procedure you can use to perform the Early Diwali Puja.
1. House Space Purification:
- Gangajal is sprinkled in puja places and several places of the house.
- Light a diya and burn some incense sticks for experiencing peace and purity in space.
2. Installation of Deity:
- In the center of the altar, keep the idols or images of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.
- Place Ganesha, who is first worshipped, to the left of Goddess Lakshmi.
- In front of them both, a Kalash filled with water, topped by mango leaves, and a coconut are to be placed signifying purity and abundance.
3. Invoking Ganesha:
Commence the Puja by invocation of Ganesha mantras and imploration by him to remove obstacles. Offer Akshat, flowers, and sweets to him as you recite this Ganesh mantra:
“Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha,
Nirvighnam Kurume Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada.”

5. Pay homage to Lord Kuber:
Since Lord Kuber is also the custodian of wealth, devotees pay Him their obeisance, whereby he is invoked for placing coins or currency notes in his image or idol as a form of gratitude for financial stability.
6. Recite Aarti for Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja:
Do aarti by lighting the camphor and reciting songs in praise of goddess Laxmi and god Ganesha. The aarti completes the Puja and brings together the souls for Bhakti. This is one of the prominent parts of Diwali Puja Vidhi.
7. Distribute Prasad:
After concluding the Puja, share to family members and other guests in attendance the prasad. Offering sweets is a sharing of happiness and blessings to all.
